Introduction
Welcome to SUNY Oneonta!
As a student enrolled in classes at the college, you are provided with a SUNY Oneonta user account that gives you access to various services, such as Office 365/Email, computer log-on privileges, the myOneonta portal, and more.
Already activated your account and signed in to the portal? You can find helpful links at the bottom of this article, including links to other useful info for new students and other online resources.
Activating Your Account
You should have received an email to the address you originally applied with from helpme@oneonta.edu with the subject line "New student user account created for <YourLastNameHere>, <YourFirstNameHere>" detailing how to claim your user account. In it will be your username and your Oneonta ID number (starting with A0).
You'll use the information provided in this email to activate your account on our User Account Maintenance page (www.oneonta.edu/useraccount).
To activate your account:
- Begin by going to our Oneonta User Account Maintenance page at: www.oneonta.edu/useraccount
- Select the “Activate User Account (if you’ve never logged in before)” option
- Enter your Oneonta ID, your Username, and your date of birth:

Remember to enter in the username provided in your new student account email, NOT an external email address or a username you make up on your own. Also, make sure you type in this information manually—copying and pasting it from another source occasionally pulls hidden characters or spaces that can cause errors!
- Enter your new password:

Your password should be a minimum of 12 characters long and not include your name, username, date of birth, or commonly used password strings like "password1234."
- After your account is set up, be sure to visit the "Update Account Recovery Options" section on the Oneonta User Account Maintenance page to set up your identity verification information in case you forget your password.
IMPORTANT: Please complete this step immediately after setting your account password! If you do not and don't remember your password, you will not be able to reset it on your own. You will need to contact the Service Desk so that we can verify your information and reset it for you.

After activating your account and setting your identity verification information, you can then log in to our myOneonta portal.
- Begin by going to: my.oneonta.edu

You'll see a login page like the above where you'll enter the username you previously activated with '@oneonta.edu' added to the end followed by the password you created during the account activation process:

- If you didn't establish your multifactor authentication (MFA) information on the "Update Account Recovery Options" section on the Oneonta User Account Maintenance page, you'll be prompted with a page that says "More information required" that will allow you to set a phone number and an alternate email address:

Please note: If you anticipate traveling overseas and do not have an international plan that will enable you to receive SMS/text messages while abroad, we recommend downloading, installing, and registering the Microsoft Authenticator application as a multifactor authentication option: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/mobile-authenticator-app
This application can provide you with MFA login codes via an internet connection in the event you are unable to receive SMS/text messages.
- After that's finished, you'll be on your myOneonta portal. There, you can find helpful cards with links to things like Outlook email, Brightspace, and much more!
