Ethos & AdAstra Connectivity

NOTE: Campuses can work with SICAS on guidance when setting this up.  Please enter a TDX ticket with SICAS.

Pre-Reqs:  Please note that for the "nearly live" data transmissions to happen, a campus must have the following items installed and configured:

  • Banner Events Publisher (BEP)
  • RabbitMQ
  • Ellucian Messaging Adapter (EMA)

In Banner create the following user: ADASTRAAPI.  This user will need different access, depending on whether you're implementing Essential Scheduling, Student Centered Scheduling or Integrated Planning.  Please refer here [link_to_location] for which Banner objects your ADASTRAAPI user will need to be granted access for each.

Once the user is created, navigate (in a browser) to your Ethos Integration hub (https://integrate.elluciancloud.com/).  From here, navigate to "Applications and follow the steps below for creating the AdAstra application.

  1. Choose "Add Application", select "From Catalog", the continue.
  2. For the Application Name provide: AdAstra and click "continue"
  3. From the catalog application list, choose: "Astra Schedule" and fill in the configuration, base uri and qapi fields as follows:
    1. Configuration: choose "Astra Schedule"
    2. Base URI: Leave Blank
    3. QAPI URI: Leave Blank
  4. Click "continue", which will take you to subscriptions.  Choose "skip" on subscriptions.
  5. You will be greeted with a "Success" screen and a option to copy your API Key.  Copy the API key to a notepad document, then choose "To Application".
  6. On the AdAstra application page, choose "Credentials (0)".  This is where you will use the ADASTRAAPI user credentials.'
    1. Select "Add Credentials" and choose your Integration API from the application drop-down.
    2. Provide the ADASTRA username and banner password
    3. Click "Add Credentials" to save
    4. Repeat this process for both the Student API and BPAPI Applications
  7. Optional: If a service which requires Data Access is needed:
    1. Within Ethos Integrate, open the AdAstra application that was created
    2. Select the “GraphQL Resources” tab
    3. On “Data Access”, load each resource from the “Data Access Models” list
  8. Once this is complete, verify appropriate access using the AdAstra "readiness" checker.  You can do so by following the first five steps found here: https://help.adastra.live/hc/en-us/articles/15295562799252-Ethos-Data-Access-Models-and-Endpoints
