New Card Access Door Hardware Request


Criteria for adding card access to a door: 

  1. Security Level: High-security facilities such as data centers, University Police, Health and Counseling Center, and other areas that require additional security.  

  1. Budget: Does your area have the funding to add this functionality ($3,000 - $4000 per door)? 

  1. User Volume: How many people will need access to this new door?  

  1. User Needs: Consider external visitors or contractors who may need temporary access. 

  1. ADA Accessibility: Determine if the new door/hardware will be used by many, or just those that need accommodation. 


Review Process:  

  1. Requests for new door access should include detailed information about the location, purpose, and security requirements. Incomplete requests will be sent back to the requestor for completion. 

  1. Initial Review: The Card Access Working Group will conduct an initial review to ensure the request meets the basic criteria outlined above. 

  1. Site Assessment: A physical assessment of the site will be conducted to evaluate the feasibility of the request and identify any potential challenges. 

  1. Budget: The request cost will be estimated by the CAWG, considering both initial installation costs and ongoing maintenance expenses. 

  1. Integration Check: The Card Access Service Technicians will confirm that the new door access system can integrate with existing security infrastructure and systems. 

  1. Final Approval: The compiled information will be reviewed for final approval. 

  1. Implementation: Once approved, the new device(s) will be installed and tested to ensure they meet all security and operational requirements.
